As a rainy Saturday afternoon cleared and turned into a beautiful
Saturday night for racing and Auburndale Speedway saw the pit area
fill with some of Florida’s beast racer and the grandstands fill with the
best fan’s and then it became time to race.
A strong field of Super Late Model racer were on hand for their
one hundred lap race. sponsored by Race Car Engineering. The fast
time qualifier was local favorite Wayne Morris as he turned in a time of
13.665 and was followed by Jeff Scofield, Kevin Macy, Daniel
Webster and Steve Dorer rounding out the top five in qualifying.
With the inversion the front row saw Dorer on the pole with Jason
Vale on the outside. The green flag dropped but the drivers were in a
hurry and Ron Lofquist was turn around the yellow flag came out with
a complete restart for the race.
Once again the green flag waved and they were off and racing. It
only took three laps for Scofield to move into second place from his
fifth starting position. With Scofield now on the bumper of the leader
Dorer had his hands full now. The fifth lap saw Macy make a great
move into third and was followed by Morris to fourth. On lap seven
Scofield made his move on Dorer and took the lead. Macy and Morris
would follow Scofield and from the seventh starting position Webster
moved to fourth.
At lap forty one Scofield and Macy had pull away from Morris and
Webster. But that was about to change as Webster made his move
under Morris for third just a few laps later. On lap seventy the yellow
flag came out and bunched the cars back together and the restart
had them running with Scofield as the leader followed by Macy,
Webster, Morris and Dorer. Three laps later the yellow was back out
as Dorer had spun Morris. Dorer went to the back of
the line and Morris was back to his spot in fourth and moving Vale to
fifth.
After eighty laps of racing and Macy and Webster all over the
back of the leader. At this point Scofield new it was time to go as he
pulled about eight cars links on the second place car. But lap eighty
four saw another yellow flag as Dorer had spun the car of Perry
Lovelady on the back straight.
They lined up and it was on from there as Scofield pull away
again they crossed the finish line with Scofield as the winner followed
by Macy, Webster, Morris and Vale.
